The Great Attempt

Ever since I knew what colleges were I was always reminded of a certain "IIT". A magical aura surrounded that institution, a glaze of Einsteinism. It was as if the IITians had proven their intellect to God and therefore no one could question them. If you wanted to be acknowledged as smart, intelligent and very- good-and-blindingly-bright-future person, IIT was the place for you.
That was when I was small.

3 months for my entrance and I still don't know a word. There are 4 lakh people(maybe more) people giving the entrance exam along with me. And calculating by the number of seats available, I have less than a 0.2% chance of getting in. But suddenly IIT doesn't look like such an attractive place anymore. Maybe because I am trying to make myself feel better judging by the kind of preparation I put in(which is probably the true reason) or maybe some other reason.

Maybe because I don't think that IIT is the actual platform to prove your worth. I don't think you're made just because you're from IIT. Contrary to popular belief, even the dumbest fuck on earth can get in. All he needs is relentless hard work. I mean crazy hard work. Study when you're eating, dream about sums, cut off your TV and internet connections( distraction, you see), and masturbate looking at Stephen Hawking. No social life. No friends. Just work. For 2 years of course. After that you can enjoy, at least thats what they say.

But are the 2 years spent studying worth it. Is it worth missing out on what is usually the best years of your school life for calculus? Yes, you're get a high pay job and you'll live in a big house with a big car but they'll make you slog just as hard for all that money. You'll be respected for your work not for who you are. You'll live your entire life working for a company, handling costumers, solving complex design faults, doing random offshore experiments, try and master internal employee rivalry with your fellow IITians. So when you're old and about to die, you think about all the past moments(geezers tend to do that), you'd have acheived a lot. Studied hard to get into IIT, worked your ass off for your company, earned lots of money.
Good life? Its hard to tell.
